One-capped Super Eagles star, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, has shared his excitement about playing for Nigeria’s national senior men’s team.
The 22-year-old midfielder made headlines last summer by transferring to Turkish club Hatayspor after deciding not to extend his contract with Sheffield Wednesday.
Impactful Start at Hatayspor
Dele-Bashiru’s move to Hatayspor has been marked by impressive performances. He played a key role in seven goals during his first eight league matches, quickly becoming an essential player for the club.
Maiden Call-Up to the Super Eagles
His outstanding form earned him a call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team for friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in October, under coach Jose Peseiro. This call-up was a significant milestone for Dele-Bashiru, who relished the opportunity to represent his parents’ home country.

Dele-Bashiru expressed immense pride in representing Nigeria, highlighting how much it means to him and his family. “It means everything to me, from my family, my parents, it means a lot. I am always happy to make my brother, mom, dad, cousins, uncles, and everyone proud. Nigeria is a country of over 200 million population so it’s not an easy thing to play for the national team, I’m always proud to play for them,” he said.

The German-born Nigerian midfielder, who has attracted interest from Lazio and Saudi clubs, is keen to continue making an impact. Dele-Bashiru will be looking to contribute significantly as the Super Eagles prepare to face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers on Friday.
