Five teams in pursuit of Nigerian midfielder Solomon Udo

Five clubs in Europe will battle it out for the signature of Nigerian midfielder Solomon Udo who plays for Shirak FC in the Armenian Premier League.

Udo is fast becoming one of the most sought-after midfelder in Europe with several clubs in Armenia and Kazakhstan interested in his services.

The Nigerian who was recently invited to join the Armenian senior national team has been playing in the Armenian Premier League for five years running.

Udo, born in Africa’s first Local Government Area – Ikot Ekpene, has been excellent in the heart of midfield and is widely known for his trademark long range goals.

He rejoined Shirak in 2019 and registered three goals alongside five assists to help the team finish among the top six in the country’s elite division.

Kazakhstan champions FC Astana have been closely monitoring the Qatar Academy product and were near signing the maestro defensive midfielder before its borders were closed due to restrictions caused by the coronavirus.

Armenian Premier League champions Ararat Armenia have also been on the heels of the Nigerian but a break in communication has seen a stall in negotiations according to

Urartu formerly Banants are hoping to be the second Armenian Premier League side to secure Udo’s services for a second stint while FC Pyunik and Ararat Yerevan are also eyeing the 25-year-old.

The defensive midfielder last featured in a competitive game on Thursday where he came on as a late substitute in Shirak FC’s 3-0 loss to FCSB in the first round of the Europa League Qualifiers.

Solomon Udo will be looking forward to adorn the red-blue-orange Armenian tricolour for the first time when Armenia goes up against North Macedonia in the UEFA Nations League on September 5 at the Philip II Arena in Skopje.

The Nigerian was listed by Armenia’s new coach Joaquin Caparross in the side that will face North Macedonia and Estonia next month.
