Flying Eagles dream of making it to the TotalEnergies U-20 African Cup of Nations final has been brought to an abrupt end following thier 1-0 loss to Gambia today.
Senegal was the first to book the final spot after the 3-0 win against Tunisia earlier today and were waiting for the opponent which will be determined after the end of the game between Nigeria and Gambia.
it’s now set, Senegal will face a high scoring Gambian team in the finals, both teams remains the only unbeaten side since the competition began.
All is still not lost for Ladan Bosso’s side who have picked the U-20 FIFA World Cup ticket which will be hosted by Indonesia and they will also battle it out with Tunisia for the third place game.
Ahmed Abdullahi had the opportunity of a penalty kick in the 86th minute to draw Flying Eagles after the 7th minute opener for Adama Bojang but he spunked his kick.
Harona Njie was sent off in the 89th minute but Gambia held onto the goal to book thier place in the TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON final.
Before the game, Gambia coach Abdoulie Bojang stated that his team will give everything to make it to the final and they sure did.
“It is going to be a tactical battle,” Bojang, who was named the Best Coach of the group stage, said.
“We will respect them and put up a respectable performance on the pitch tomorrow.”

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in 16 years when Nigeria beat the Young Scorpions in Brazzaville to qualify for the final and they have gotten back their revenge.
