Football saved me from depression – Ekerete Udom

Vandrezzer Football Club striker, Ekerete Udom has revealed how playing football saved him from depression and keep him on the right path.

In an interview with Vandrezzer FC TV, Udom who is nicknamed “Tall Boi” says he derive joy and happiness playing football.

“Football is a lot to me because it has kept me on the right path of life,” Udom told Vandrezzer FC official website.

“Sometimes I’m depressed, sad and things may happen that make me think a lot. Once I get into the pitch, I derive so much joy not minding what I’m going through. Football gives me joy and brings happiness to me when I feel depressed.”

The imposing striker joined the Lions of Naija in 2019 as one of the club’s pioneer players, scoring the team’s first-ever goal in the Nigeria National League, NNL fixture against Bayelsa United at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.

Udom, who turned 20 this month speaks on the professionalism of the club and believes that if other teams in Nigeria operate like Vandrezzer FC, football will be better in the country.

“Truly I respect the club’s high level of professionalism and motive which she carries of redefining football in Nigeria.

“It’s not easy but with the great passion I’ve seen in the team, it has been possible. If forty percent of clubs in Nigeria operate like or close to Vandrezzer FC, football in Nigeria will be better if not the best.”

Ekerete Udom formerly played for Ibom Youth FC and Ghanaian side, Cheetah FC. He joined Vandrezzer FC as a central defender but has dramatically converted to a prolific striker.
