We begin our star check series with former Akwa United forward, Aniekpeno Udoh, who won the Federations Cup with the Promise Keepers in 2015 before moving to Norwegian side Vikings FK in 2016.

He is currently in Finland playing for KuPS. In a chat with The Athletic NG correspondent, Nsikakabasi Akpan, Udoh opens up on life in Finland, staying indoors, when the league will resume and his thoughts on what is happening in Nigeria.

How is the COVID-19 pandemic in Finland?

All is well, we have resumed training. We don’t have many cases over here and things are gradually opening up, just that people are not allowed to sit in groups more than 10.

How did you cope during the lockdown?

It was not easy, very boring times, but have been doing some training at home and tuning outside with Usman.

When is the Finnish League commencing?

We were supposed to kick start the season on June 11 but due to the Pandemic we will be starting on the 1st of July.

Has your team played any games since the resumption of activities in Finland?

No, but we are playing a friendly match on Saturday.

A fan asked if you have any reservations about returning to football with the COVID-19 pandemic not totally eradicated?

Hard to say. But for now I think everyone has to learn how to live with the virus, because the WHO says is not going anytime soon… life must go on.

Are you worried about the growing number of cases in Nigeria?

Yes, I’m worried but I pray that God should protect everyone.

Thank you for your time Aniekpeno Udoh, on behalf of everyone back home, I wish you all the best as you prepare for the new season.
