Former Liverpool star says Okocha is the greatest African footballer

Former Liverpool forward, El-hadji Diouf says Nigeria’s Austin Jay Jay Okocha is the most talented African footballer to ever graced the round leather game.

With the perpetual debate of who is Africa’s greatest footballer, Diouf is quoted as saying former Super Eagles captain Okocha was the best he has seen from the continent.

In a recent conversation with Radio Sports Infos [RSI], Diouf responded to Samuel Eto’o’s claims of being Africa’s greatest player, submitting that although Eto’o and Didier Drogba had achieved more in terms of trophies won, Jay Jay Okocha was the most talented of them all.

“Today I respect what they [Drogba and Eto’o] have achieved in football and I will always defend them,” Diouf said on RSI.

“The most talented of African footballers, who have played the game on the continent, since I was born, is Jay Jay Okocha”.

“To be talented doesn’t necessarily mean that you are the best or have won the most titles in your career, we’ll always have people who will win more trophies and I respect that, ” he added.

Despite not winning trophies, Diouf says the former PSG and Bolton midfielder is the most talented player he’s ever come across.

“He is the most talented player that I have ever seen. He did not win as many trophies as the others, he did not win the Golden Ball but no one can argue that he is the most talented African footballer of all times.”

Diouf and played together at Bolton Wanderers.

The debate is rather an unending and as days go by, African legends are airing their opinion. Africa is blessed with skilful players bit will we ever see another Okocha?
