Garba Lawal tips Victor Osimhen for CAF Player of the year award win

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, is on the verge of signing a new contract with Napoli, extending his tenure until June 2026. THE ATHLETICNG

He is by far the most in-form African player at the moment. Victor Osimhen has been tipped for the CAF player of the year award by former Nigeria international Garba Lawal.

Osimhen currently leads the goal-scorers chart in the Italian Serie A, his goals instrumental to Napoli’s push for the Scudetto this season.

Garba Lawal is proud of Osimhen’s exploits and with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah not in top form, Lawal believes a Scuddeto win for Napoli will be enough to see the 24-year old named Africa’s best.

” Osimhen has been making everyone proud and I must commend him for his brilliant effort in putting the name of Nigeria in positive direction,” Lawal told SPORTS BRIEF.

“If he should win the Serie A title and continue scoring, then he will become the next Africa’s best footballer because he is ahead of all competitors now.”

Napol lead the Italian Serie A standings with 67 points from 23 matches to sit 15 points clear of second placed Inter Milan.

Osimhen has shown no signs of slowing down on his goal scoring spree, the Nigerian forward on target as the Patonopei defeated Eintract Frankfurt 0-2 in a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash on Tuesday night.

Kanu Nwankwo [1999] is the last Nigerian player to win the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year award.
