Ghana Football Association boss dreams of AFCON and World Cup title win for Black Stars

Ghana let slip a two-goal lead in stoppage time, settling for a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in their final group stage match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has articulated his ambitious vision for the future of Ghanaian football in the aftermath of the Black Stars’ disappointing exit from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Despite the recent setbacks, Okraku remains resolute in his belief that the Black Stars will soon rise to conquer both the continent and the world, as reported by SportsRation.

The Black Stars’ struggles were evident in the 34th edition of the AFCON currently underway in Ivory Coast. Ghana, with high hopes of a strong performance, concluded their campaign with just two points in Group B. They suffered a defeat against Cape Verde and managed draws against Egypt and Mozambique.

Reflecting on Ghana’s recent performances in major competitions, it is clear that the team’s track record has been less than stellar. In the 2021 AFCON, they were eliminated in the group stages after securing only one point. Similarly, their performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup saw them collecting three points against Korea Republic but failing to advance further as Portugal and Uruguay progressed.

Despite these setbacks, Kurt Okraku maintains unwavering optimism about Ghana’s footballing future. He expressed his ambition to see Ghana emerge victorious in every competition they participate in, including the AFCON and the FIFA World Cup. Okraku emphasized that this ambitious mindset is shared among his fellow Executive Council members.

“I want to win the Afcon, I want to win the [Fifa] World Cup, I want to win every competition Ghana finds itself in,” Okraku said, as quoted by Pulse Ghana.

Looking ahead, following the dismissal of Chris Hughton due to the team’s poor showing in the AFCON, the GFA is now in search of his successor. The focus will then shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, set to resume in March, where the Black Stars will aim to secure their place on the global stage once again.
