Nigeria’s U-17 male team the Golden Eaglets on Thursday bowed to a 4-6 friendly loss to Derby Football Academy.
The game was part of the Golden Eaglets preparations for the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and a worthy one vs a hugely talented Derby Football Academy lads.
Abuja based Derby FA opened the floodgate of goals in the 6th minute of play. With the lead, Derby FA comfortably dominated proceedings in the first half to lead 3-1 at halftime.
Upon resumption for the second half, both teams had a goal apiece early in the half to stretch scores to 4-2 .
Derby Football Academy will add two more goals while the Eaglets converted two spot-kicks to complete a 10-goal thriller, the Eaglets bowing to a 6-4 loss in front of Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Paseiro and NFF Technical Director Austin Eguaveon.
Nigeria will face Morroco, South Africa and Zambia in Group B when the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations tournament gets underway in Algeria from April 29, 2023.
Coach Nduka Ugbade and his technical crew members are currently building on the squad which won the WAFU B U-17 Championship in 2022 with the aiming of presenting the legs for the Nations Cup.
Nigeria is the most successful footballing nation in the U-17 male category having won five World Youth Championship titles.
