GovWike20: MFM FC secure 4-0 comfortable win over nine men Udala FC

NPFL side MFM FC of Lagos maintained their 100 percent start to the Governor Nyesom Wike Pre-season Tournament with a 4-0 victory over 9 men Udala FC.

The Olukoya Boys started on the front taking the lead in the second minute, with Muyiwa Balogun scoring from the spot after a penalty was awarded to them.

MFM extended their lead in the 36th minute through Dennis Obasi with two Udala FC players being sent off in the first 45 minutes.

Clement Ogwu extended MFM’s goal tally with a brace in the 75th and 80th minutes to give coach Tony Bolus a comfortable three points.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Coach Bolus said his team is determined to maintained their winning mentality.

“We want to keep the winning mentality from preseason to the league proper. We decided to try something different and it paid off.”

Bolus was sent off to the stand by the centre referee and the coach said: “It is part of the game. When you need to make your point and someone misunderstood you.”

MFM FC could have scored more than the four goals but the coach said he is not disappointed with the result.

“I’m not disappointed, any team that has a red card plays better, it’s always like that, the players are more determined and they don’t want to concede more, so they work harder. It’s nothing bad.

“The most interesting thing for us is that we were able to keep possession, which is what we want to put into play, a different ball game entirely in the season, we want to always keep possession and play.”

Udala FC Head Coach Folabi Ojekunle rued the two red cards but says his team will take the experience from the tournament.

“It’s terrible. It’s not like a match we lost from the first half, we conceded an early penalty and two red cards still in the first half, it’s difficult and a fresh experience.

“We don’t really have enough time to rest, we are just trying to do something different, maybe we could get something better than our opponent and we couldn’t because they are fantastic.

“Tomorrow when we take on Lobi Stars, we are going to take the match as it comes, I’m very sure Bayelsa United are not as strong as MFM, we will play them and see how it goes tomorrow. We will try to make changes to see how to inject fresh energy into the game.

“The owner of the club bought a camera, every game that we play is on video for us to watch and review, we are not here to win the trophy, we are only here to come and showcase ourselves, to tell people that there is one club called is Udala Football Club, that we have a disciplined side that could contain any side, that is what are doing and I think we have achieved that.
