Rivers Angels striker Vivian Ikechukwu has revealed that she joined the Jewels of Rivers because of trophies despite having offers from two other clubs.

Vivian joined Rivers Angels in 2018 after leaving Abia Angels. She was a target for Ibom Angels and Bayelsa Queens before deciding to move to Port Harcourt.

According to Nigeria Women Football League, Vivian disclosed that her friends discouraged her from joining Rivers Angels, fearing she might not have playing time.

“I had three offers on the table when I wanted to leave Abia Angels, they wanted me to stay, but I wanted a new challenge. Ibom Angels, Bayelsa Queens, and Rivers Angels were all interested in me,” she said.

“Some of my friends discouraged me from going to Rivers Angels, they said I wouldn’t get play time in Port Harcourt, of course I knew the team was star-studded, played against them a couple of times in the league and scored too.

“I was confused and had to call my mum, explained everything to her and she asked me what do I really want. I told her I wanted something more in my career and wanted to win trophies as a player.

“She told me to follow my heart and so I arrived Port Harcourt the next day, had my medicals two days after, left the hotel and joined the other players at the team’s camp.”

Vivian Ikechukwu says she was treated with respect and felt at home immediately she arrived.

“Everyone at Rivers Angels treated me with so much respect and I felt at home almost immediately.”

She also credits the Team Manager during their first meeting and who encouraged her to work hard for the club.

“This is an environment where everyone is welcome and treated equally. If you are motivated and want to help us win more trophies, then you’ve got a place here at Rivers Angels.

“I have never regretted joining Rivers Angels, and will forever be grateful to God Almighty and my mom who was the only person that encouraged me to join the Jewels of Rivers.”
