Ibom Angels FC have secured their return to the top flight of Nigerian women’s football after a commanding 2-0 victory over Osun Babes in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Championship playoff match on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

Guided by former Super Falcons head coach Edwin Okon, the Orange Ladies completed their promotion campaign with a perfect record, solidifying their place back in the Nigeria Women’s Football League. The playoff clash at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar saw Ibom Angels dominate from the start, with captain Abasiofon Uwah opening the scoring early on.

Ijeoma Onweagba added a second goal in the 60th minute, putting the result beyond doubt. Although Osun Babes had a chance to reduce the deficit with a penalty in the 76th minute, they were unable to convert, allowing Ibom Angels to seal the victory.

The win capped off a remarkable run for Ibom Angels, who cruised through Group B1 of the NWFL Championship, defeating Papa Soccer, Delta Babes, Unification FC, and Chosen Generation FC without dropping a single point.

Coach Edwin Okon, known for his tactical expertise and ability to nurture young talent, assembled a team of promising players who rose to the occasion throughout the campaign. Their flawless performance throughout the tournament not only showcased their quality but also reaffirmed their status as deserving promotion contenders.
