Imama Amapakabo leaves Abia Warriors after two underwhelming seasons

Nigeria Professional Football League side, Abia Warriors Football Club has parted ways with Imama Amapakabo as head coach following two underwhelming seasons.

The 53-year-old joined Abia Warriors in July 2020 and has helped the club retain its status in the top division despite always finding itself in relegation struggles.

Warriors finished 13th in the just concluded 2022/23 NPFL season with 50 points, two points ahead of relegation places, having picked 11 points from the last five matches of the season.

Imama signed a two-year contract in 2020 and the club has decided against renewing his contract at the expiration of the deal.

The club statement reads: “The management of Abia Warriors Football club has parted ways with Coach Imama Amapakabo after the expiration of his two-year contract.

“The club thanked him for the services rendered and wish him well in his future assignment.”

In Imama Amapakabo’s first season in charge, the Umuahia side finished 14th in the 2020/21 season with 47 points, four points clear of the relegation places.

Before joining Abia Warriors, coach Imama took Rangers International in 2016 to their first NPFL title in 32.
