IMC in close door meeting with SME over NPFL TV deal

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) on Thursday, November 9, 2022 were in a close door meeting with emerging Pan-African digital broadcasting giant, Stream Media Entertainment (SME), to secure a deal to broadcast the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Athletic NG understands the IMC is seeking competent and trusted digital broadcasting company with world class equipment before announcing a tentative date to commence the 2022/2023 NPFL season.

The IMC has approach the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and were considering South African giant, SuperSports, but may settle with a home-based company who they believe have the needed equipment, manpower and capacity to cover league matches across the nation.

The Athletic NG also understands the league organizers were given a virtual tour of SME broadcasting equipment and were impressed at the depth of facilities at their disposal.

Important details of the meeting has not been made public at the time of this report but The Athletic NG understands the IMC may settle for a home-based company while still keeping the door open for SuperSports and other interested broadcasters.

Last month, the Special Assistant to President on Sports and former Super Eagles player, Daniel Amokachi and a member of the IMC was at the SME facility in Uyo and came out impressed, saying “there is hope for Nigerian football.” 

Stream Media Entertainment is a pan-African media company that provides online streaming platform services and a wide variety of sports and entertainment contents that are creatively scripted, purposefully produced and intentionally delivered.

The company is the official broadcast partner of Nigeria National League side, Vandrezzer FC since 2020 and is responsible for the coverage of the club’s matches including pre and post match ceremonies during home matches.

The high-tech entertainment outfit covered the 2021 Lagos State FA Cup which Vandrezzer FC emerged champions.
