IMC, NTA meet to discuss TV rights for NPFL

The Interim Management Company (IMC) on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 met with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to discuss terrestrial Television rights for the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.

IMC is a body set up by the Ministry of Sports to repackage, rebrand and restructure the apex club football body in Nigeria – the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The meeting had in attendance the chairman of IMC, Gbenga Elegbeleye and other members of his team, Director General of NTA Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos and other key board members of the NTA.

Discussions centered on how NTA can partner with the league body in broadcasting live matches of the NPFL to Nigerians.

No decision was reached at Tuesday’s meeting as both parties have agreed to meet again to finalize their discussions.

The IMC is looking at various outreach possibilities for the NPFL and there are indications that they have also opened discussions with Multi-Choice to get Super Sports broadcast the league to the international audience.

As at this moment, there is no tentative date for the kickoff of the NPFL but the IMC is working closely with the clubs to ensure that players registration on the Transfer Matching System, TMS is done in good time so that a start date will be fixed before the end of November.
