INCOMPETENT! Sports Minister sends Gernot Rohr sack notice

Nigeria Sports Minister, Sunday Dare has questioned the suitability and technical competency of Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, following two dismal outings against Sierra Leone.

The Super Eagles on Friday surrendered a four-goal lead against minnows Sierra Leone at the Godwin Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin to blow the chances of Nigeria qualifying for the African Cup of Nations which will take place in Cameroon.

Nigeria needed three points to qualify for the continental showpiece but only managed two points against lowly ranked Sierra Leone in the two-legged fixtures.

Nigeria remains top of Group L with eight points from four matches, needing just three points to qualify for the tournament.

Nigerian scored 4 goals in the opening 29 minutes against Sierra Leone on home soil but managed to concede 4 goals in the same match.

Football fans, pundits and administrators have criticised and condemned such a disastrous performance which was compounded by the 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture.

Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare on Wednesday tweeted that such performances will not be tolerated and apologised to Nigerians.

He also questioned the suitability and technical competency of Rohr.

The performance of the Super Eagles from their last two matches calls to question the suitability and competences of Technical Adviser, Rohr. Nigerian football deserves better. The needful will be done. Apologies to all football lovers,” Dare tweeted on Tuesday.

Rohr was appointed technical adviser of the Super Eagles in 2016, replacing the late Stephen Keshi and has taken Nigeria to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and a third-place finished at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

One of the candidates to replace the Franco-German coach is Super Eagles legend, Emmanuel Amunike who qualified Tanzania to the last Nations Cup.
