Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is reportedly the leading candidate to take charge of the Kuwaiti national team, according to Arab Times. The Kuwait Football Association is keen on appointing Peseiro to lead the Blue Wave in the decisive qualifying round for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
Peseiro, who left his role as Super Eagles head coach at the end of February, has been linked with a return to the post. However, Saudi club Al Riyadh are also reportedly interested in the Portuguese coach.
The 63-year-old has a wealth of experience, having previously coached Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. He led the Super Eagles to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished as runners-up.

Kuwait is in Group B of the World Cup qualifiers, alongside South Korea, Oman, Iraq, Palestine, and Jordan. Peseiro’s experience and tactical prowess would be invaluable to the Blue Wave as they aim to qualify for the World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has yet to appoint a new coach for the Super Eagles, despite Peseiro’s departure several months ago. Fans are growing increasingly impatient, with some calling for the appointment of a new coach to prepare the team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Super Eagles fans have expressed concern over the delay in appointing a new coach, with some suggesting that the NFF is wasting time and resources by not appointing a coach early enough. However, others have defended the NFF, stating that they are taking their time to find the right candidate and that the coaches of other teams in the qualifying group are also idle.
The situation highlights the challenges facing the NFF in finding a suitable replacement for Peseiro, who did an excellent job during his tenure as Super Eagles coach. Whoever takes over will have big shoes to fill, but with the right appointment, the Super Eagles can continue to soar.
