Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, 38, has indicated he is not ready to hang up his gloves, despite limited playing opportunities in recent months.
The experienced shot-stopper, who last featured for South African side Marumo Gallants, has been out of action since September following a tough outing against Mamelodi Sundowns, where he conceded three goals before being substituted.
His subsequent absence from the starting lineup has fueled speculation about his future in the sport.
However, Akpeyi recently took to Instagram to share a video compilation of his best saves, highlighting memorable moments from his stints with the Super Eagles and Kaizer Chiefs.

The post, titled “Joy is coming,” garnered attention, including praise from his former teammate and South African legend Itumeleng Khune.
“One of the best to grace our shores. Respect, Papa D,” Khune wrote, resharing Akpeyi’s video on his Instagram stories. Akpeyi responded warmly, saying, “Skipper, you are simply the best. Big love.”
Akpeyi’s tenure at Marumo Gallants has been far from smooth. Joining the club at the start of the season after they acquired Moroka Swallows’ league status, he initially made appearances, including games against Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows, and Sundowns.

However, injuries and inconsistent form have sidelined him since September, with only one bench appearance since.
Reports from SNL24 suggest Akpeyi may be on his way out of Marumo Gallants, raising questions about his next destination. Despite these challenges, Akpeyi remains optimistic, as evidenced by his Instagram post hinting at brighter days ahead.
With 18 caps for Nigeria and a bronze medal from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he served as the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper.
Akpeyi has enjoyed stable career career since leaving the Nigerian league in 2015 for the Premier soccer league.
However, he has not represented Nigeria since the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs against Ghana.
