Late Brazilian defender Luiz Henrique never joined Vandrezzer FC

Vandrezzer FC has announced that former Fluminese full-back Luiz Henrique Farias who passed on yesterday morning in Brazil was never a player of the club.

Local media reported on Wednesday the death of the defender who was in Nigeria last year (December 2020) for transfer to NNL side Vandrezzer FC, but the deal did not materialise.

It was reported in some section of the media that the player joined Vandrezzer FC ahead of the new season and died while contracted to the club.

The club issued a statement yesterday on Twitter to clear the air on what transpired between the player and the club during his brief stay in Nigeria.

“Contrary to recent online publications, the late Luiz Henrique who visited Nigeria ahead of a potential transfer to the club, departed Nigeria for Brazil on December 23, 2020, without signing a contract or a pre-contract with Vandrezzer FC as the transfer deal was unsuccessful,” the statement reads.

Henrique arrived Nigeria in December for trials ahead of a potential transfer to the club but the trials was unsuccessful, hence, no contract was offered to the player.

After the failed trials, Henrique departed Akwa Ibom for Lagos on the December 23, 2020 onboard the Ibom Air 16:15 hrs flight, in the company of the club Acting Chief Operating Officer.

Upon his arrival at Lagos, he was accompanied to the departure wing of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport where the player then departed Nigeria onboard the British Airways (BA)74 flight to London en route to Brazil.

The full-back did not sign any contract or pre-contract of any sort with the club and was not at any time a player of Vandrezzer FC or play a competitive game for the club.

The club also confirmed the player was in good health and observed all COVID-19 protocols before departing for Brazil that same month (December).

“During his brief stay in Nigeria, he observed all the Covid-19 safety protocols. He also had access to the club’s retainer hospital and records show he was not ill during his trials in Nigeria.”

Henrique was supposed to form a strong Brazilian core at the club with compatriots Alberico Da Silva, Ivo Junior, Coach Rafael Everton and his assistant.
