Leon Balogun hints on Bundesliga return

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has hinted he will leave the English Premier League side, Brighton and Hove Albion for a potential return to the German Bundesliga.

According to Fussballtransfers, the former Hertha Berlin man said he is almost certain to return to the German Bundesliga at some point in his career.

The 31-year old Balogun played for Hertha Berlin, Hannover 96, Darmstadt 98, and Mainz 05 before moving to England to join Brighton in 2018 after running down his contract at Mainz.

The German-born central defender has however found it difficult to break into the Brighton first team, making just 8 appearances and registering a goal.

He capitalized on the January transfer window to make a loan move to the English Championship side Wigan where he has been putting up blistering performances and gradually becoming a regular in the team before the season was suspended because of the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis pandemic.

“Germany is my home, I would always think about it, I’m still fit. Even if I turn 32 in the summer, I still have a few years in my legs. I would also like to continue the experience of England, but the bottom line is that it is nowhere like at home,” he said.

Leon Balogun made his Premier League debut for Brighton in a 3-2 win over Manchester United on Sunday, August 19, 2018.

The Nigerian was introduced as a substitute for Lewis Dunk in the 20th minute after he suffered an injury.
