Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria shuns England, commits international future to Nigeria

Liverpool midfielder, Ovie Ejaria has committed his international future to Nigeria despite representing England at the Under-20 and 21 levels.

Ejaria is currently on loan at Reading from Liverpool and has made 48 appearances since last season scoring 4 goals.

In August 2019, Liverpool released a statement that Ejaria “completed a season-long loan switch to Championship side Reading with an agreement for the move to become permanent next summer.

“The midfielder returns to the club having made 16 appearances during a loan spell in the second half of 2018-19 and will seal a transfer to the Royals on July 1, 2020,” the statement read.

Breaking the news, former Super Eagles media officer, Colin Udoh, tweeted that Ovie Ejaria is set to represent the three-time African champions.

“Ovie Ejaria has committed to Nigeria, an @NGSuperEagles team source tells me.

“Paperwork is already with FIFA, and Nigerian passport needs to be renewed.

“All but settled for the Liverpool man who is on loan at Reading,” Udoh tweeted on Wednesday.”

The 22-year old trained with the Nigeria Under-17 team in 2013 and stated that his international allegiance lay with the country in 2014.

Ejaria was part of the England under-20 team that played in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup and also represented England at the Under-21 level.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr in December 2019 urged the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to ensure that Ovie Ejaria switches his allegiance to England.
