Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is setting his sights on a return to the Super Eagles squad after missing out on selection for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Following a challenging period at Sky Bet Championship club Watford last season, where injuries limited his playing time, Okoye opted for a fresh start and secured a permanent move to Serie A side Udinese last summer.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper has since established himself as a regular starter at Udinese, regaining his form and confidence. Now, Okoye is eager to reclaim his spot in the Nigerian national team.
“I’m feeling very well now. I feel 100%,” Okoye expressed in an interview with the club’s official website. “Representing the national team is crucial to me, and I’m eager to make a comeback as soon as possible. It was tough watching the Africa Cup of Nations from home, but that’s part of football.”
Despite missing out on the continental tournament, Okoye remains committed to his international aspirations. With 16 caps already under his belt for the Super Eagles, he is determined to add to his tally and contribute to the team’s success in future competitions.
