The 20th edition of National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020 which was scheduled for March through April 2020 in Edo State now has a new date.
According to Premium Times, the 11-man committee led by Chairman, Tony Okowa was set up by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to find a new date for the National Sports Festival, announced that the multi-sports competition will now begin on October 25 to November 4.
Okowa made the new dates known on Friday in the company of the Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, who is the chairman of the Local Organising Committee.
The committee is made up of members of the COVID-19 Task Force (NCDC), Ministry of Health, Agency for Disease Control, Commissioners of Sports from the six geo-political zones of the country and representatives of the Sports Ministry.
The National Sports Festival is designed to showcase the best athletes in the country.
Edo 2020 was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic which has brought sporting activities across the globe to a standstill including the Tokyo 202 Olympic Games.
In March, the federal government of Nigeria suspended all sporting activities in the country to deal with the spread of the virus.
According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the country has recorded29,789 confirmed cases, 12,108 cases have been discharged and 669 deaths in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as at Wednesday July 8.
Delta State are the defending champions of the National Sports Festival following their spectacular show at the last edition held in Abuja.
