New Falconets invitee Simone Reilly says she is living her dreams playing for Nigeria

Bohemian FC and Super Falconets invitee, Simone Reilly has expressed her lifelong dream to represent Nigeria on the international stage. Despite being eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland, Reilly has always prioritized Nigeria, citing her pride in wearing the green and white jersey.

Reilly is among 12 strikers invited to the provisional squad for the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia. She reflects on her journey, stating, “I am extremely delighted with my experience in the Falconets setup. It has always been my dream to play for Nigeria… I am working very hard to convince my coaches, and my goal is to make the final squad for the World Cup in Colombia.”

Nigeria faces a challenging Group D, competing against three-time winners Germany, Korea Republic, and Venezuela. The tournament takes place in Colombia from August 31 to September 22.

Simone Reilly will join Michelle Alozie and Ashleigh Plumptre in the list of recent recent female footballers with Nigerian descent who played for other countries early in their career but switch allegiance to Nigeria later in their career.

Nigeria prepares for the tournament and Reilly’s enthusiasm and commitment to the team are palpable. Her dream to play for Nigeria has finally come within reach, and she is ready to seize the opportunity with both hands.
