Ibrahim Musa Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has announced that the soon-to-be-appointed coach of the Super Eagles will also take charge of the CHAN Eagles for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The qualification for the tournament, secured with a 3-1 aggregate win over Ghana under coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, will be the last task for the duo, as they will step aside for the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
Gusau confirmed that the appointment of the new coach is imminent.
Speaking to the NFF’s official media channel, Gusau said,
“The new coach of the Super Eagles will be known very soon. The technical committee met on Thursday to discuss this, and I am awaiting their report. Once we review it and receive approval from the board, we will move forward, but definitely, Nigerians will know who will be leading the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers.”

He assured that the new coach’s appointment would happen quickly, as the NFF is keen to have the coach start work immediately. “As part of our policy, the coach we appoint for the Super Eagles will also manage the CHAN Eagles,” Gusau added.

The NFF President Gusau explained that it’s important the new coach is fully involved with both the senior national team and the home-based players, ensuring a seamless transition between the two squads.
“You can’t lead a team of home-based players and, after the tournament, claim that you didn’t identify players who could be integrated into the senior team. The qualification against Ghana was an important achievement, and there’s hope for Nigerian football. Many focus on the match in Uyo, but the draw in Ghana was equally significant,” Gusau said.
The CHAN Eagles are now preparing for the tournament with a two-week camp in Nigeria. They will then embark on a training tour before heading to the tournament venue in February.
