NFF set to announce new Super Eagles and Flying Eagles coaches this week

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to announce the new head coaches for the Super Eagles and Flying Eagles within the week.

Since the resignation of Finidi George in June, the NFF has been without a head coach for the Super Eagles, despite the approaching Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The federation has been working diligently to ensure that the new appointment is both qualified and financially feasible.

Per BSNsports, an NFF source, who requested anonymity, revealed in an exclusive interview with BSNSports.com.ng, “We have to take our time considering the pedigree of the coach and ability to pay without owing him. Despite the time being against us, we must be very careful by not solving one problem to create another. We don’t want to repeat the mistake of the past where coaches were announced without a clear plan for salary payments.”

The source confirmed that the NFF has identified a suitable coach for the Super Eagles and is now finalizing the details. “We have settled for a good coach whom we can afford to pay without owing him, and the coach will be announced this week.”

Regarding the Flying Eagles, the source added, “After much scrutiny, we have concluded on choosing the best candidate, and that person will be made known to Nigerians this week.”

The announcement comes barely a month after Finidi George, who was appointed as the 41st manager of the Super Eagles, resigned in June 2024. His tenure saw the team draw 1-1 against South Africa in Uyo and suffer a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in Abidjan, casting doubt on Nigeria’s World Cup qualification prospects.

The NFF’s decision is eagerly anticipated as the new coaching staff will play a crucial role in Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures.
