Nigeria has officially earned a promotion to Davis Cup World Group II after securing decisive victories over Ghana in the ongoing Group III Africa Qualifier event.
The Nigerian team, comprising Christopher Bulus and Michael Emmanuel, triumphed over the Ghanaian duo of Abraham Asaba and Isaac Nortey, winning both rubbers with identical scores.
Bulus clinched the first win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory, followed by Emmanuel who mirrored the result in the second rubber. This performance ensures Nigeria’s promotion, irrespective of the outcome of the third rubber.
The five-day competition concluded on Saturday, 20 July 2024, confirming Nigeria’s advancement to World Group II. In contrast, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire are set to be relegated to Group IV, while the Benin Republic will remain in Africa Group III.
Zimbabwe and Namibia are the other countries joining Nigeria in World Group II, having also secured impressive wins at the event held in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Nigerian tennis, reflecting the team’s hard work and dedication throughout the competition.
