Nigeria can win AFCON in Cameroon – John Noble

Super Eagles goalkeeper, John Noble believes Nigeria can win the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.


Nigeria made a bright start to the tournament by beating title favourite Egypt 1-0 on Tuesday in Garoua.


The three-time African champions dominated the match and deservedly went ahead in the 30th minute through Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho.


Noble, who is yet to make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles says Nigeria can win the trophy for the fourth time in their history.


“From what happened yesterday, I believe we have a team that can lift the trophy and bring it back to Nigeria,” Noble told journalists after the team’s training session on Tuesday.


“Everybody were composed and played to the coach’s instruction and with everything that is going on in the team, the team spirit and togetherness, I surely believe we will come back with a trophy.”


Enyimba goalkeeper, John Noble is the only player from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to have made the squad to the tournament.


The win ended Nigeria’s 32 years without a victory against the Pharoah’s dating back to the Nation’s Cup in 1990.


Top of the group after matchday 1 with three points, the African giant is poise to win the group. They will return to the Roumdé Adjia Stadium to face Sudan who played a 0-0 draw with Guinea Bissau in the group.
