Nigeria U-20 Vs Mozambique U-20: Match Preview

Nigeria’s U-20 male team the Flying Eagles will today face Mozambique in it’s last group game of the 2023 AFCON at the Suez Canal Stadium Ismaila, Egypt.

Here is a preview of the Group A clash, group A standings and knock-out round qualification permutations.

MATCH PREVIEW: Group A matches of the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will be played simultaneously on Saturday Febuary 25, 2023.

Hosts Egypt will face Senegal at the Cairo International Stadium while Nigeria and Mozambique will play at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismaila.

Kick-off for both games is 6pm Nigerian time.

At U-20 level, Nigeria is the most successful team in Africa having won the AFCON title seven times.

Mozambique have never tasted success in the tournament and his participating in the tournament for the fourth time.

Today’s game is the first ever meeting between Nigeria and Mozambique at U-20 level. A tricky game it will be with both teams still with a chance of progressing to the knock-out round in Egypt.

HOW THINGS STAND IN GROUP A: Senegal are top of the standings in Group A with six points from the wins over Nigeria and Mozambique.

Nigeria sit in second place with three points. Egypt and Mozambique occupy third and fourth place respectively with a single point from their 0-0 opening day draw.

PERMUTATIONS FOR KNOCK-OUT ROUND QUALIFICATION IN GROUP A: Senegal are already through to the quater-final of the tournament.

Ahead of the final group games, Nigeria, Egypt and Mozambique all have chances of nicking a last-8 spot in group A.

For Nigeria, a win or draw vs Mozambique will secure quater-final qualification while Mozambique will push for maximum points to seal a rare quater-final place.

In the other game, Mahmoud Gaber tutored Egyptian side are in danger of first round elimination on home soil except they secure a positive result vs already qualified Senegal.

As it stands, Group A looks likely to secure one of two slots for the best 3rd-placed teams at the 2023 U-20 AFCON.
