Nigeria’s AFCON opponents Ivory Coast draw Morocco in friendly game

Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations – AFCON group stage opponents, Ivory Coast were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco on Saturday, October 14.

Recall that at the 2023 AFCON draws ceremony in Abidjan, Nigeria was picked from two to face Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea in group A.

As part of preparations for the tournament, Ivory Coast faced 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Morocco in a delayed International Friendly game.

The match was earlier scheduled to take place on September 9, but was moved due to the unfortunate earthquake which rocked Morocco.

The International Friendly game was played at the Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, one of the selected venues to host 2023 AFCON matches .

Borussia Dortmund attacker Sebastien Haller fired hosts, Ivory Coast ahead in the third minute of first half added time to the delight of cheering home supporters.

The Ivoriens held on to the lead until Morocco struck back through Ayoub El Kaabi, nine minutes to the expiration of duration time to force a 1-1 draw.

The Ivory Coast International Friendly game draw came 24hrs after AFCON group stage opponents, Nigeria played a 2-2 International Friendly draw vs the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia in Portugal.
