Rena Wakama, head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has been awarded Best Coach at the Paris 2024 Olympics, as announced by FIBA. Despite D’Tigress not reaching the final four, Wakama’s exceptional leadership was recognized.

At just 32 years old, Rena Wakama led D’Tigress to historic achievements in Paris. The team’s remarkable performance included a historic win over Australia in the group stage—Nigeria’s first-ever victory in that round—and a series of impressive victories, including a memorable win against Canada.

This earned them a spot in the Olympic Quarterfinals, making them the first African team, male or female, to achieve this milestone.
