Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeat Costa Rica 1-0 to end winless streak

Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Costa Rica 1-0 at the Leon Stadium to finally clip a seven game winless streak.

Esther Okoronkwo turked home a beauty in the first half to ensure the Falcons record their first win since the WAFCON quater-final clash vs Cameroon.

It was Nigeria’s third game at the Revelation Cup tournament in Mexico. The Nigerian ladies arrived the World Cup preparatory tournament with a 5-game winless streak.

Randy Waldrum tutored Super Falcons had previously suffered defeat to hosts Mexico and Colombia before coming out tops vs Costa Rica.

From kick-off, it was Nigeria who looked brightest and duly bagged the opening goal in the 45th when Esther Okoronkwo turked home a Jennifer Onyi cross to secure maximum points.

Relief for under-fire manager Randy Waldrum and the Falcons who held on for a 1-0 win over fellow World-Cup bound Costa Rica ladies in Leon, Mexico.

The Falcons are eliminated from the tournament and will return to their various clubs pending camp opening for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in July.
