Second half substitute, Emeka Maduka scored one currently ranks as one of the best solo-goals of the NNL season, to help Abia Comets Football Club of Umuahia secure a vital point on the road, with a 1-1 draw against Rovers FC of Calabar, in a 2023/24 Nigeria National League (NNL) Matchday 10 Southern Conference Group A clash.
The encounter which was played at the U. J Esuene Stadium, Calabar and saw Comets resist every attempt from Rovers FC to break the deadlock in a drab first half of the encounter that ended in a goalless.
However, in the second half, it was a different atmosphere as substitute, Maduka Emeka, scored with a superb volley to beat off Rovers FC goalkeeper, Clinton Ezekiel, through John Otomewo brilliant pass to put the visitors 1-0 ahead, in the 83rd minute.
In the 88th minute, Jonah James had a great opportunity to double Comets’ lead, but it was saved by the the goalkeeper.
With the clock ticking away, with eight minutes added on for stoppages, the referee awarded Rovers FC a late penalty, in the 90+2 minute, which Jousha Sunday converted to force a 1-1 draw in Calabar.
That result means Abia Comets FC secure a vital point on the road, extending her unbeaten run to five games in a row.
With the draw, Comets maintained seventh position on 14 points from 10 games.
Abia Comets FC will be playing hosts to Vandrezzer FC, in the next league fixture, on Saturday, Febuary 3, 2024 in a Matchday 11 encounter, at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
