NPFL fix AGM, order 7 clubs to upgrade playing turf

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) will hold in Lagos on July 15-16. The meeting will deliberate on the scheduled kick-off date of the 2024/25 season, which is fixed for August 31.

According to a letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, Davidson Owumi, the AGM will bring together member clubs to discuss preparations for the new season. The letter congratulated member clubs for the successful completion of the 2023/24 season and expressed the league’s readiness for the new season.

Meanwhile, the NPFL has directed seven clubs to renovate their grounds to meet the facility requirements of the Club Licensing Regulations. The affected clubs are Abia Warriors, Sunshine Stars, Shooting Stars, Kwara United, Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United, and newly promoted El-Kanemi Warriors.

The clubs were ordered to upgrade their playing turf or face the prospect of playing on alternative grounds. The NPFL also directed the clubs to provide broadcast support facilities such as elevated camera stands.

The NPFL has also commended Niger Tornadoes for maintaining their top-flight status despite a challenging season. The club was praised for their determination and hard work, which ensured their survival in the league.

The NPFL is preparing for the new season and fans are eagerly anticipating the kick-off date. With the AGM holding in Lagos, expectations are high that the league will continue to grow and improve. The upgrade of playing facilities and the provision of broadcast support facilities are seen as positive developments for the league.

The 2023/2024 NPFL season ended in grand style with Enugu Rangers clinching the title with 70 points, 5 points above second-placed Remo Stars. NPFL clubs are also into big transfers to bolster their team and strengthen key positions for the next season.
