Akwa United Defender, Olisa Ndah has thrown his weight behind the home-based players, saying they deserve to be called up to the national team by Coach Gernot Rohr.

In an interview with The Athletic NG, the rock-solid defender stated that the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL is blessed with exceptional players who deserve to don the colours of the Super Eagles.

“We really deserve it, they have to look at our league a bit, we have great players in the league, I believe home-based players can do what the foreign-based players are doing.

Players in the NPFL are constantly overlooked by Rohr but have recently made their voices heard, pushing for inclusion in the national team.

Former Flying Eagles and Rangers of Enugu coach, Imama Amakpakabo, in an exclusive interview with The Athletic NG remarked that players playing in the domestic league lacks quality to play for the Super Eagles.

The statement followed comments by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, President, Amaju Pinnick that Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr must begin to watch NPFL matches with a view to identifying players he can call up to play in the national team.

Ndah, who plays for the Dream Team believes that home-based players are “hungry” and itching to play for the senior national team.

“We’re hungry,” Ndah said. “In your first call up, you want to prove yourself by putting more effort and hope things will work out”.

The 22-year old defender has played several matches for the national under 23 team and hope he will break into Nigeria’s national team.

Olisa Ndah is currently in the books of NPFL power-house, Akwa United, and was an integral part of Kennedy Boboye’s team before the league was suspended due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

He joined the Promise Keepers last year (2019) and is already a fan favorite at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium due to his impressive performances.

Akwa United are currently 6th on the table with 35 points from 25 matches.
