Enyimba International secured their first victory at the ongoing Nigeria Premier League (NPFL) Super 6 Playoffs against Lobi Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arean in Onikan, Lagos on Monday.
Chukwuemeka Obioma’s 16th minute goal was enough for Enyimba to secure a narrow 1-0 win against Lobi Stars.
Coming off a 2-2 draw against Remo Stars in their opening game, Enyimba International entered the match determined to claim all three points. The Peoples’ Elephant wasted no time in taking the lead, as top scorer, Obioma expertly headed home a beautiful cross from Ekene Awazie to put the former NPFL champions in front early in the game.
Coach Finidi George’s side continued to press forward in search of a second goal. Obioma came close to doubling their lead in the 54th minute with a close-range strike, but Lobi Stars’ goalkeeper, Atsaka Daniel, made a crucial save to deny him.
Despite their efforts, Enyimba International was unable to extend their advantage, but they remained resolute in defense, ultimately securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
With this win, Chukwuemeka Obioma has now scored two goals in the opening two games of the tournament, showcasing his prowess in front of goal. His goal tally for the season stands at an impressive 16 in 21 games for Enyimba International in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
