NWFL Super Six: Political figure fires up Nasarawa Amazons with cash and “VIP treatment”

The Nasarawa Amazons are buzzing with confidence as they prepare for the NWFL Super Six Playoffs in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State following a morale-boosting visit from Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe on Tuesday.

Following the team’s final training session, the Deputy Governor addressed the players, praising their dedication and high-quality performance. He commended the coaching staff’s hard work and the players’ quick adaptation.

“I’m highly impressed by your training today – this is the quality every sportsperson aspires to see,” Dr. Akabe remarked. He added, “Kudos to the coaching staff for their hard work and the players for their quick adaptation. You consistently make us proud with your performances.”

Drawing inspiration from their 2019 Aiteo Federation Cup triumph over Rivers Angels, Dr. Akabe expressed his unwavering belief in the team’s ability to conquer the Super Six and envisioned them not only lifting the trophy but also securing the coveted slot for the Women’s CAF Champions League.

“Recalling your 2019 Aiteo Federation Cup win against Rivers Angels in Kaduna,” Dr. Akabe declared, “I have full confidence you’ll excel and bring home the Super Six trophy, securing the sole slot for the Women’s CAF Champions League.”

The Deputy Governor reassured the Amazons of the government’s unwavering support. and highlighted Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule’s passion for sports, particularly his commitment to both Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons.

“Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule is a passionate sports fan who closely follows both Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons. He considers the Amazons family, and you’ll continue to feel that support.”

The Deputy Governor revealed he had contacted his counterpart in Bayelsa to ensure the Amazons receive VIP treatment throughout the tournament. This gesture signifies the commitment to ensuring the team feels comfortable and focused on achieving their goals. “I’ve contacted my counterpart in Bayelsa State and be assured of a VIP treatment throughout the tournament,” Dr. Akabe stated.

Nasarawa Amazons Head Coach, Christopher Danjuma, expressed his sincere appreciation for the Deputy Governor’s visit. He acknowledged the team’s past successes fueled by the motivational power of such visits. Coach Danjuma emphasized the team’s determination to make Nasarawa State proud and potentially achieve a historic first – playing continental football. “Your visit, along with the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary’s, motivates us to make Nasarawa State proud,” Coach Danjuma said. “This could be the club’s first time playing continental football.”

Earlier, Club Chairperson and Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Women’s Premier Football League Board, Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, briefed the Deputy Governor on the team’s planned trip and activities in Yenagoa.

The NWFL Super Six Championship kicks off on May 18th and runs through May 26th, 2024. The Amazons will face a tough challenge in a round-robin format, battling against Confluence Queens FC, Heartland Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, and host team Bayelsa Queens.
