Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed former Arsenal forward, Alexis Sanchez will join Inter Milan permanently following a successful loan spell in Italy.

In his post-match conference after United eased to a 7-1 aggregate win against LASK in the Europa last 16, Solskjaer wished Sanchez well ahead of the Chile international’s permanent move to Inter Milan.

“I can confirm that he’s agreed and we’ve agreed. Alexis enjoyed his time there. They’ve liked him so of course that’s a good move for him. Wish him all the best,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s a top player, that we want to see play his best football.

“For whatever reason we didn’t see the best of Alexis. But he’s a top professional and we just wish him all the best.”

Sanchez has been on loan at Inter since August 2019 with United still paying a large portion of his £560k-a-week wages.

According to Sky Sports, Alexis will receive a payout from United for cancelling his contract, which still has two years to run. The details of the payout are unknown but the value of the remaining two years in wages is around £55m.

Chief Executive Officer of Inter Milan, Beppe Marotta has told Sky Italy that the Serie A club are close to securing the permanent signing of Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United.

Marotta said: “He is not official yet, but unofficially he is ours for three seasons. We believe in him a lot and we are happy.”

Marotta also suggested an official confirmation could come as soon as Thursday.

Sanchez’s three-year contract with Inter is worth £6.3m a year.
