‘Organise Super 6 tournament to decide league champions’, Dare Ojo advises LMC

Akwa United midfielder, Dare Ojo says the League Management Company, LMC, should organise a super-six tournament to decide who wins the 2019/2020 league season.

Speaking to The Athletic NG, the combative midfielder suggested that the LMC can stage a title-deciding tournament involving the top six teams on the table, similar to the super-six tournament that was held last season.

“I think they should organize a super-six tournament, the first six teams in the league, I think that should be okay for us”.

The former Enyimba star stressed that he would prefer the season to restart in order to fairly decide the league title, noting that some teams have played fewer matches before the season was suspended, including his team Akwa United.

“I think it is not fair because we have a lot of outstanding matches to play, Enyimba, Enugu Rangers, and even we Akwa United, we have outstanding matches to play so it is not good to give the league title to Plateau United because they are on top.”

The mercurial midfielder also believes it will be unfair and unacceptable to end the league abruptly and name Plateau United the title.

The NPFL was suspended mid-march as a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country and left Coach Abdu Maikaba’s Plateau United leading the race for the title with 49 points, four points ahead of second-placed Rivers United and 14 points ahead of Akwa United.

Dare Ojo joined Akwa United from Lobi Stars at the start of the season and has been pivotal for the Promise Keepers who sit sixth on the table.
