Osayi-Samuel weighing Fenerbahçe stay amid Premier League interest

Bright Osayi-Samuel has hinted at the possibility of extending his stay with Fenerbahçe SK, despite links to a move to the EPL

Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has hinted at the possibility of extending his stay with Fenerbahçe SK, despite ongoing links to a move back to the English Premier League.

With just months left on his current contract, the Nigerian international has been rumored to have signed a pre-contract agreement with Nottingham Forest, while Crystal Palace is also reportedly interested in securing his services.

However, ahead of Fenerbahçe’s Europa League clash against Rangers, Osayi-Samuel has put transfer talks on hold, focusing instead on finishing the season with his current club.

Premier League Ambition vs. Fenerbahçe Future

Osayi-Samuel has been open about his long-term goal of returning to England’s top flight, having previously played for Queens Park Rangers before making the switch to Turkey in 2021.

“I think everyone knows that my ambition is to play English football, to play in the [English] Premier League, you know. No disrespect, Fenerbahçe have done so much for me here [in Turkey]. But my ambition is to play in the Premier League. So when I feel that the time is right for me to go, I will take it,” he told Soccernet.ng.

Speaking to Fenerbahçe’s official website, Osayi-Samuel admitted that he has faced challenges this season, including injuries and limited playing time, but confirmed that discussions over a new deal are in progress.

“I had some serious injuries. I didn’t get any playing time in some games. The coach made that decision. It was a bit disappointing for me. I really want to play for this team. My contract ends at the end of the year. I will talk to the club president about it. They said they will offer me a new contract. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season.”

Osayi-Samuel has been on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs, including Brentford, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest. However, his latest statements indicate that he is prioritizing talks with Fenerbahçe before making a final decision.
