Former Super Eagles striker Peter Osaze Odemwingie has stunned fans by ditching football for golf.
The 43-year-old, who hung up his boots in 2019 after a 19-year career, has taken up professional golf.
Odemwingie revealed his initial dislike for golf, finding it slow-paced compared to the thrilling world of football. However, the challenge of mastering the sport drew him in.
“The mental side of things is probably the hardest part,” he confessed.
Odemwingie’s golf journey began in 2012, during a team-building exercise with his then-club, Stoke City.

Coach Mark Hughes, an avid golfer, encouraged players to try the sport as a reward for proper training. Odemwingie was hooked, and his passion grew.
After passing his PGA course earlier this year, Odemwingie turned pro. However, he admits the transition from leisure to competitive golf is tough.
“It’s totally different doing it under pressure… You fight your thoughts constantly.”
Despite his newfound love for golf, Odemwingie plans to return to football next year, aiming to secure his coaching badges.
Odemwingie hopes his golf venture will inspire Africans to take up the sport.
“When I watch the tour, I never see any West Africans in contention… It would be great to have families tell me their kids decided to take up golf because of my story.”
The former West Bromwich Albion striker made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in 2002 and retired from international duty in 2014, scoring 11 goals in 62 games.
