Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has finally opened up about why he left Napoli for the Turkish Super Lig, revealing that head coach Okan Buruk played a major role in his decision.
After a dramatic summer filled with uncertainty over his future, the 26-year-old secured a loan move to Galatasaray in September. Despite a lack of pre-season preparations, Osimhen has wasted no time making his mark, scoring 23 goals and providing five assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast with former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi, Osimhen shared what convinced him to make the switch.

“It was an easy choice because the coach played a huge role. I had already watched their games before even considering the move. When I spoke with him, he explained the club’s vision and goals for the season.
Victor won the scudetto with Napoli.
“We shared the same mindset. The club’s symbol is a lion, and I see myself in that—my playing style, my resilience—so joining Galatasaray felt like the right step.”
Beyond football, Osimhen admitted that Turkish culture, especially the cuisine, played a part in helping him settle in.
“Turkish food is really good. I’m close friends with Onyekuru, who played here, and he always posted about the food, so I tried it and really liked it.”
Osimhen admitted that the transition wasn’t smooth due to the uncertainty surrounding his Napoli exit.
“I didn’t have a proper pre-season. There was a lot of chaos, so I’m still working toward being 100%. But the club has helped me adapt, and my teammates have made it easier.”

Even with his impressive goal tally, Osimhen insists his motivation goes beyond scoring.
The Nigerian is currently the 2nd highest goal scorer in Turkey with 17 goals.
“I still have a lot to give. Even if I’m not scoring, I want to fight and win—not just for the club but for myself and my family. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
Osimhen has been a game-changer for Galatasaray, spearheading their title push and helping them maintain a seven-point lead over Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe.
His performances have also drawn attention from Europe’s biggest clubs, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Liverpool, and Arsenal all reportedly interested in securing his services.
