Osimhen rue Lille’s failure to secure Champions League football

Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen has bemoaned his side’s failure to secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, The Athletic NG reports.

Speaking to BBC Sport Africa, Osimhen said winning Lille’s player of the season was not his priority.

“Winning the Lille player of the season was not my target,” Osimhen said.

“My target was to help the team finish in the champions league spot. but I want to thank my team-mates and those who voted for me.”


Osimhen, who joined Lille from Belgian Pro League club Sporting Charleroi at the start of the season also reflects on his time in France.

“I’m really happy-it’s a great feeling, I’m here and proving it,” said the former Wolfsburg striker.

“The league is not as easy as some people think, it’s very competitive and you have to play among the best.”

The 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season was halted due to the spread of the coronavirus with Paris Saint-Germain declared champions.

The 21-year-old Nigeria international enjoyed s superb debut campaign in France scoring 18 goals and bagging 6 assists in 31 games in all competitions.

Victor Osimhen was named in the Ligue 1 team of the season alongside Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe.
