Paris Olympics 2024: Anuoluwapo Opeyori reflects on early exit from Paris Olympic games

Despite not advancing to the second round of the men’s singles event at the Paris Olympics, Nigerian badminton player Anuoluwapo Opeyori maintained a positive outlook on his performance.

Opeyori was eliminated after a 2-0 defeat (21-17, 21-17) by China’s Li Shi Feng, the world number six, in his second group match on Wednesday. Earlier in the competition, he also lost his opening group game to Tobias Kuenzi of Switzerland, ranked 181st, with a score of 2-0.

“It was a fantastic outing, I gave everything,” Opeyori described his performance. “Yes, it may not be the result that we wanted, but it wasn’t a bad outing and good for African badminton.”

Opeyori’s early exit from the Olympics may be disappointing, but his determination to improve and become one of the best in the world is admirable. “I will keep working hard to become one of the best in the world,” he concluded.

Opeyori was the lone representative of Nigeria in the Badminton category of the Olympics. Despite facing tough opponents and subsequently getting eliminated, he remained positive and focused on his goals.

The Nigerian badminton player’s experience at the Olympics will undoubtedly serve as a valuable learning opportunity, and his determination to improve will inspire other African athletes to strive for excellence.
