Nigeria’s sole badminton representative at the Paris Olympics, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, has bowed out of the competition, extinguishing the country’s medal hopes in the sport. Opeyori’s exit came after a 0-2 loss to China’s Li Shi Feng in his second and final Group N match at La Chapelle Arena Court 2.

The Nigerian shuttler struggled to find his footing, losing 17-21, 17-21 in a match that lasted just over 30 minutes. This defeat followed a similar 0-2 loss to Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi on Tuesday, where Opeyori was beaten 20-22, 14-21.

With only the group winner advancing to the quarterfinals, Opeyori’s losses meant he finished bottom of the three-player group, ending Nigeria’s chances of a badminton medal at the Games.
