Paris Olympics: Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor make history in Women’s Long Jump

In a historic moment for Nigerian athletics, the trio of Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Ochonogor have all qualified for the women’s long jump final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

This is the first time in Olympic history that three Nigerian jumpers have advanced to the final of this event.

Ese Brume led the way with a remarkable leap of 6.76 meters, surpassing the automatic qualifying distance of 6.75 meters.

This achievement marks her third consecutive appearance in the Olympic long jump final. Brume has been a standout performer for Nigeria, having been the country’s sole athletics medallist at the Tokyo Olympics.

Fans are hopeful she can repeat or even improve upon her past performances and secure a podium finish in Paris.

Joining Brume in the final are Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor. Usoro, who faced disappointment in Tokyo after being among the 10 disqualified athletes, redeemed herself with a leap of 6.68 meters, securing her place in the Olympic final for the first time.

Meanwhile, Ochonogor, showcasing consistent form throughout the season, qualified with a jump of 6.65 meters, also marking her debut in a global final.
