Super Eagles and Southampton striker Paul Onuachu could be set for a move in the upcoming transfer window following interest from Turkish giants Besiktas.
A Rollercoaster Journey
The 30-year-old forward joined Southampton from KRC Genk in early 2023, having amassed an impressive record of 85 goals and 10 assists in 134 appearances for the Belgian side. However, his time at the Saint Mary’s Stadium has been far from successful.
In his first six months with the Saints, Onuachu struggled to make an impact, logging just 405 minutes of game time without scoring. Seeking more opportunities, he moved to the Turkish Super Lig on a season-long loan with Trabzonspor during the summer transfer window.
Revival in Turkey
Onuachu found his form with Trabzonspor, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 appearances. His stellar performances caught the attention of Turkish football enthusiasts and rekindled his confidence.

Despite Trabzonspor’s efforts to sign him permanently, Southampton declined the offer, bringing him back to England, where he remains out of favor as the first-choice striker.
Besiktas Enter the Frame
According to Turkish outlet 61saat, Besiktas has expressed strong interest in the 2.01m tall forward. Serdal Adalı, a prominent presidential candidate for the club, has reportedly reached out to Southampton officials to facilitate the transfer.
Adalı aims to leverage Onuachu’s acquisition as a statement signing to bolster his campaign and rally support among Besiktas fans ahead of the club’s presidential elections.
A Potential Return to Turkey
Onuachu is reportedly open to the move, having already adapted to the Turkish league during his successful stint with Trabzonspor.
