David Akpan, a silver medalist at the 2015 National Sports Festival for team Akwa Ibom State has been diagnosed with inflammatory cancer and is in need of surgery.
Akpan, male, is a member of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA), who has won medals for the state.
According to a medical report from the Ibom Specialist Hospital in Akwa Ibom State, the health condition has caused abnormal growth to his tongue which has prevented him from eating and is struggling to speak properly.
The 37-year-old who is fighting for his life and has only three weeks to perform the surgery, which will slow down the spread of cancer.
The surgical bill will cost N185,000 (One hundred and eighty-five thousand naira) only.
David Akpan is calling on the Federal and State Ministry for Youth and Sports, the Akwa Ibom State government, football associations, sports stakeholders, private sectors, groups and well-meaning Nigerians to help him stay alive.
The Powerlifting and Table Tennis player is a known name in the Akwa Ibom sports circle and has represented the state in various competitions.
He won a Bronze medal at the 2012 National Sports Festival in Lagos, Silver medal at the 2015 National Championship and a Bronze medal at the National Championship in 2017.
