PREVIEW: Can Rangers upset league leaders Kwara United at the Cathedral?

Rangers International of Enugu will be hoping to pick the maximum three points when they take on table-toppers Kwara United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday.

The Flying Antelopes suffered 1-0 defeat at Abia Warriors on Monday through Paul Samson’s 25th minute strike to earn Imama Amapakabo’s side their second win of the season.

Kwara United has been among the standout performers this season and currently joint-top of the NPFL table on 21 points from 10 games alongside Enyimba albeit with a game in hand.

Kwara United last weekend picked all three points in the 3-0 home win over Dakkada FC in Ilorin.

However, Rangers will be hoping to record their fifth win against Kwara United with their last home league victory against the Ilorin based club coming in the 2018/2019 season through Felix Onyedika Ogbuke’s lone strike that secured all three points for the Flying Antelopes at the Cathedral.

The 2015 league champions have won their last two games at home (3-0 vs Dakkada FC and 1-0 vs Warri Wolves) and are in search of three consecutive victories at home this season.

Coach Salisu Yusuf made four changes in the defeat to Abia Warriors with the inclusions of Osas Okoro, Shedrack Asiegbu, Ebuka Anthony and Chinonso Eziekwe all started the game, but will be hoping to welcome both Israel Abia and Femi Ajayi who missed the game through injuries.

Kwara United on the other hand, continued with their impressive form with a 3-0 home Victory over Dakkada FC in matchday 10 encounter last Sunday. The visitors will be without influential midfielder Jide Fatokun, who will miss the clash against Rangers on Sunday through suspension with five yellow cards so far this season.

Fatokun has started all Kwara United’s ten league games this season but the side will have Brazilian Luis Alves who will be making his second appearance for the Ilorin based club.

Rangers have a better head to head record over Kwara United (4 wins, 2 defeats and 1 draw) in seven games against since 2013.

Both sides will be hoping to get maximum points when they take on each other in Nigeria Professional football league, NPFL matchday 11 encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
