Remo Stars gets Southwest bragging rights as Rivers United stay top

Remo Stars have continued their perfect wining streak in the 2022/2023 Nigerian Professional League after a 2-0 home win in the Southwest derby against Shooting Stars today.

Elsewhere, defending champions, Rivers United also stopped visitors Niger Tornadoes to maintain top spot in Group A of the NPFL abridged league format.

Daniel Ogunmodede piled more miseries on Gbenga Ogunbote having not won any games since the campaign began condemning them bottom of the log in Group A alongside Nasarawa United.

Both wins for Remo Stars and Rivers United put both clubs on the top spot of their groups respectively.

Ogunbote who is regarded as the oracle was at the helm of managerial affairs in Remo Stars last season guiding the Ikenne based club to a continental football participation in their debut season.

Shooting Stars have just managed two points in three games after amassing a point in thier six goals thriller against Plateau United and one more from the goalless draw against Kwara United.

Remo Stars have now gotten the upper hand after a 2-0 win and the bragging rights in the Southwest derby at the expense of their ex tactician job.

Remo Stars now have a daunting task ahead of them as they will be travelling to Edo to face newly promoted NNL side, Bendel Insurance who are yet to taste defeat this season in their next NPFL encounter.

Both teams are equally tied on nine points in Group A but Remo Stars lead the log due to goal difference, definitely going to be a nerve cracking encounter.

Meanwhile, Shooting Stars will host El Kanemi Warriors in bid to get their season back on track after a slow start.
